The Marlins and Braves were knotted at zeroes in the ninth last week when the Miami pitching staff started getting into a jam and therefore had to add in a little bit of extra strategy.
There were intentional walks to set up force plays along with the final plan of bringing in a fifth infielder. Brian McCann then just hit a blooper to left and the Braves won. I guess Mattingly’s idea did not fail, since that would have been a hit anyway. The smirk on his face got me, though.
