Surgery was always an option for Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar, and after tearing his labrum in the third game of the season almost a month and a half ago, he has officially elected to get the surgery.
Andujar was a monster in his rookie season a year ago. Many argue he should have won rookie of the year over Shohei Ohtani, and there is certainly that argument to be made.
Miggy’s numbers will look awful in 2019- because they are- but it was obviously because of this injury above anything else. He tried to rehab it without the surgery and came back, briefly, but couldn’t hit at all and his defense wasn’t any better with a torn labrum. He went back on the IL earlier this week and made the decision tonight to get the procedure done.
I’m excited to get Andujar’s bat back into the lineup in 2020. For now, just go get healthy, big guy.
