The Yankees announced that Johnny Lasagna was placed on the 10-day IL (retroactive to May 10) with a right shoulder strain. They have called up Chance Adams to take his place on the active roster.
This explains why Luis Cessa was named Monday night’s starting pitcher. It was supposed to be Loaisiga. I assumed the decision was based on a combination of tonight’s weather forecast and the fact that Lasagna would visibly benefit from an opener. I was wrong.
It doesn’t sound like a good injury for Loaisiga, either. It sounds bad. It sounds too similar to the same injury Dellin Betances has for my liking. I suppose we will know for sure soon.
UPDATE: According to Lindsey Adler, Loaisiga will be shut down for four weeks then will begin a throwing program. It’s a strain of his right rotator cuff. Not good.
Chance Adams has made 6 AAA starts this season and has a 4.80 ERA to show for it. He pitched 7.2 MLB innings in 2018 and was solid in his one start in Fenway Park, but dramatically unimpressive in his other two appearances. He is the Yankees fifth starter, though, for now. Hopefully, James Paxton returns soon.
